  • Frequently Asked Questions

Rapport works with your existing anti-virus software to add extra security by:

  1. Checking that you are connected to N&P, rather than a fake website created by criminals to gather your password, log-in and account details.
  2. Locking the connection between your computer and N&P, to help prevent criminals from hijacking your online connection.
  3. Creating a secure link for safe communication, stopping thieves from using malicious software to steal your log-in data and tamper with transactions.

For more information see our frequently asked questions or visit trusteer.com

Rapport will be available to download from the Internet Banking section of the N&P website from February 2012.

Who is Trusteer?
  • Trusteer is a world leading provider of secure browsing services.  N&P have teamed up with Trusteer to offer their Rapport security software to our Internet banking customers.  Installing this software will help to prevent criminals gaining access to your account information.

For more information on Trusteer please visit www.trusteer.com
What is Trusteer Rapport?
  • Trusteer Rapport is free and easy to download security software that is designed to make your Internet banking even more secure.  Whilst anti virus software and firewalls provide valuable protection against fraud, criminals are becoming more sophisticated and so it's important that we take extra steps to protect you.

Trusteer helps to protect you in three ways:
    1. It checks that you are connected to N&P, rather than a fake website created by criminals to gather your password, log-in and account details.
    2. It locks the connection between your computer and N&P, to prevent criminals from hijacking your online connection..
    3. It creates a secure link for safe communication, stopping thieves from using malware to steal your log-in data and tamper with transactions.
Why do I need it?
  • Trusteer Rapport helps to protect your Internet banking secure details, such as your passwords and your customer ID. If someone were to get hold of these details they could access your online accounts.

Whilst anti virus software and firewalls provide valuable protection against fraud these sometimes aren't enough to fully protect you against identity theft. Criminals are becoming more sophisticated and can bypass these defences and so it's important that we take extra steps to protect you.
Is it free to download Rapport?
  • Rapport is offered free to all N&P Internet banking customers.
Will it slow my computer down?
  • If you experience any performance or browser issues immediately after downloading Rapport, it is most likely a result of software incompatibility or a clash with a computer virus already on your computer.

Rapport may block software that it recognises as a potential threat. If you remove Rapport it makes it very hard for Trusteer to identify the problem and fix it.  Instead, temporarily stop Rapport and then contact a Trusteer support representative.

Trusteer will work with you to resolve any issues you may experience. Visit www.trusteer.com/support and click on 'Live Support Online' to chat with a Trusteer support representative.
If I have already downloaded Trusteer Rapport software do I need to download it from N&P as well?
  • If you have already downloaded Rapport software from another source you won't need to download it from N&P as well. Trusteer Rapport is used by a number of banks and building societies in the UK and once it is downloaded onto your computer you will be protected by Rapport when banking online.
Which systems and browsers is Trusteer Rapport compatible with?
  • Windows 7- Microsoft Internet Explorer version 8, Mozilla Firefox version 3.0 or greater
  • Windows Vista - Microsoft Internet Explorer version 7 or 8, Mozilla Firefox version 3.0 or greater
  • Windows XP - Microsoft Internet Explorer version 7 or 8, Mozilla Firefox version 3.0 or greater
  • Apple Mac OS X - Safari version 4.0 or greater

You can still have Rapport running even if most of your browsing is done using an unsupported browser. Rapport does not interfere with your browsing. You can always choose to switch to a supported browser when you log onto a sensitive website such as your online banking website.
How do I know if I'm protected?
  • When you download the software the Trusteer Rapport icon will appear next to your browser's address bar.

If the icon is grey you are not protected. When the icon is green your information is safe.   Trusteer Rapport Example
Which websites are protected with Trusteer Rapport?
  • You can use Trusteer Rapport to help protect you on any websites where you login or send sensitive information.  Simply click on the grey Rapport icon next to the web address bar. Select 'protect this website' and the icon should turn from grey to green, this means your information is safe.
Does Trusteer store or send any information about me?
  • Rapport creates an encrypted signature of your credentials on your computer, this is used by Rapport to identify any unauthorised leakage of your credentials.  Rapport also sends anonymous reports about security events and internal errors to a central server. This information is used to improve the product and the policy. You can instruct Rapport not to send out any information.
Do I still need anti-virus software if I download Trusteer Rapport?
  • Yes, Trusteer Rapport is designed to work together with your existing anti-virus and firewall protection, rather than replacing it.

Firewalls, anti-virus software and Rapport all work in different ways:

Rapport strengthens your online security by 'locking down' the connection between your computer and N&P to prevent criminals from hijacking your online connection and getting hold of your secure details.

Anti-virus software helps to stop threats, by scanning your PC and looking for suspicious files.

Firewalls 'hide' your computer from attackers, and helps stop criminals getting data in and out of your computer.

It is therefore really important that you still keep your anti-virus and firewall software up-to-date as new viruses and attacks on your computer are constantly being released.
If I download Trusteer can I still access my account from other computers which do not have the software?
  • Yes, Rapport protects any computer that it is installed on. It doesn't prevent you from accessing your account from other computers.
Do I need to download Rapport onto every computer I use?
  • Yes.  In order to be fully protected when banking with us online, you should download Rapport onto each machine you use - just like anti-virus software.

If you wish to download Rapport to a work PC, check with your employer as they may not allow downloads to their PCs.
How do I download Rapport?
  • To download Rapport, simply click to login to your Internet banking account as usual. A promotional page from Trusteer will appear before you enter your customer number - simply click on the 'download' button on this page and follow the instructions. It's really easy to install and you will then be able to proceed to login to your Internet banking account without re-starting your computer.
How can I contact Trusteer?
  • You can contact Trusteer in several ways:

  • Trusteer Rapport Console – This is the most efficient way to contact Trusteer, especially for technical issues as technical information about the way Rapport is installed and functioning is sent along with the query. Therefore, Trusteer support representatives won’t need to ask basic questions about the installation and so will be able to solve your problem faster.

  • Live Chat – This option ensures a virtually immediate response. It also enables Trusteer’s support team to guide you to perform any research that may be required on your computer.

  • Email – You can send questions to Trusteer’s support team at support@trusteer.com

  • Live Chats, emails and console queries will be answered between 7am to 7pm, Monday to Friday.
