KNOW WHAT NEEDS INSURING

Consider the full replacement cost of everything you want your insurance to cover. The bigger and more expensive items are obvious, but don't forget your clothes, crockery and CD collection. The best way to make sure you don't miss anything important is to make an inventory of each room in your home.

MAKE SURE YOU'RE COVERED

Check that your buildings insurance only covers you for the rebuilding cost of your home, and not its resale value. The rebuild figure will almost certainly be less, and this should be reflected in the premiums you pay. There's no point in being over-insured.
